Are you going to be teaching in a socially distanced classroom? Still want to do morning tubs with your class? Don’t worry! They can still be done!
In my classroom, I used More to Explore Tubs (basically another name for Morning Tubs because we didn’t only use them in the morning!) and each group of student shared a tub during our morning time. During this time students were able to come into our classroom before our instructional day started! I had a color-coded system that told each group what color of tub they would have for that day. I had ten different tubs, so they would rotate them over a 2-week period!
Well this worked great in a “normal” classroom, I knew that it would definitely not work for socially distancing! So, I set up individual morning tubs!
Of course students are not able to switch these out on a daily basis. BUT, at least they can still have this time to explore! My plan is to allow students to choose which manipulative they wanted to use from a variety of ideas. The two items that I plan on starting with are Brain Flakes and Building Bricks because these could be easily sanitized!
My plan when we return to the face-to-face classroom is to allow my students to keep their tub for a certain amount of time, like two weeks or a month. Then, sanitize all the manipulatives and allow them to choose a new item! Here is a list of ideas for Socially Distance Morning Tubs! My recommendation is to stick to things that are able to be sanitized easily!
For the containers, I wanted to get something that was affordable but that would hold up! These Food Storage Containers are a great option! I also really like these Mesh Bags and Small Bins with Lids!
While this year is without a doubt going to be VERY different, it’s important to try and keep things as normal as we can! I look forward to using these individual morning tubs in my own socially distance classroom!
